The approach to Kununurra is over the Ord Diversion Dam Wall.
Had to include a photo of the caravan park footpath – green grass, flowers and big shady trees – things we haven’t seen for a while!!
Ivanhoe Crossing formed part of the original road from Kununurra to Wyndham. It was flooded when the Diversion Dam was built.
We went sight-seeing and visited the Zebra Rock Place. Zebra rock is unique to this area and is sculptured into decorative pieces.
This Zebra Rock is painted with Boab trees.
The Hoochery is the oldest legal still in Western Australia still operating – nice rum!

This is Lily Creek Lagoon in town. The hill in the background is ‘The Sleeping Budda’
We went on the Sunset BBQ Boat for a trip up Lily Creek Lagoon and the Ord River. We floated near the top of the Diversion Dam Bridge and enjoyed a gourmet BBQ dinner.

Millions of bats hang in the trees that grow along the dam bank. At dusk they feed on local fruit and blossoms.
The original pump house has been converted to a restaurant by some enterprising locals.

This is how to spend a lazy Sunday in the park. Pity it wasn’t us though!

Kelly’s Knob overlooks Kununurra from a height of 191 metres.
The Mirima National Park (Hidden Valley) is a ‘mini Bungles’ with the same rock structures, just out of town.

ReplyDeleteAt the moment all of my pics have 'bug guts' on them. hahahahahaha "we stop for no man nor beast" hahahaha but we DO stop if the fridge door is left unlocked. lol
